Play & Nature Based Learning
At Woods, we embrace a play-based and nature-based approach to learning, inspired by the renowned British Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. Our learning program emphasizes hands-on exploration, imaginative play, and a deep connection with the natural world.
Children learn through engaging activities, outdoor adventures, and creative experiences, fostering a love of learning and a strong sense of curiosity. Our teachers create a nurturing and stimulating environment where children can thrive, develop essential skills, and build a strong foundation for future learning.

At Woods, we understand that nature is more than just a beautiful backdrop; it's essential for children's well-being. Research consistently demonstrates the profound positive impact of nature on physical and mental health on children (and adults).
A landmark study published in the Journal of Environmental Health, found that children with access to green spaces exhibit improved attention spans, reduced stress levels, and enhanced cognitive development.
By integrating the natural environment into our daily learning experiences, we aim to cultivate healthy, happy, and resilient children who thrive both academically and personally
Living classroom
Woods knows that education can be fun and memorable and outdoor learning is the cornerstone of this vision. We see the natural world as an extension of our classroom, a dynamic and ever-changing learning space that ignites children's curiosity and encourages a connection with nature. Our outdoor spaces are intentionally designed and utilized to bring the curriculum to life, providing hands-on opportunities for exploration, discovery, and (play-based) learning.

Whether it's investigating mini-beasts in our forest area, planting seeds in our garden, watching birds from our bird hyde, or simply observing the cycles of nature, we aim to integrate nature into various aspects of our teaching. Learning in the outdoors not only supports academic understanding but also promotes physical and emotional well-being, develops life skills, and cultivates a deeper appreciation for the natural world.

Woods School recognizes that play is far more than mere amusement; it is a fundamental pillar of childhood development. We understand that play is children's primary mode of learning, fostering cognitive growth by encouraging problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking. Through imaginative play, children develop essential social and emotional skills, learning to negotiate, collaborate, and build resilience. Play allows them to explore their emotions, manage stress, and build self-confidence, contributing significantly to their overall well-being.
By providing a rich and stimulating play environment, Woods School empowers children to learn, grow, and thrive, ensuring they develop the skills and emotional intelligence necessary for a successful and fulfilling future.
Kenyan Roots, Global Wings

At Woods International School, we emphasize our shared connection to Kenyan culture while preparing our students to become global citizens. We celebrate Kenyan traditions, incorporate local heritage into our curriculum, and encourage a deep respect for the environment and the cultural tapestry of Kenya.
We simultaneously strive to instill in our students a global perspective, cultivating curiosity and understanding of different cultures, languages, and perspectives.
By nurturing both their Kenyan roots and global wings, we empower our students to become confident, compassionate, and responsible citizens of the world.
